Student Ministry Library Review: What Does the Bible Really Teach About Homosexuality?
Every so often I will showcase a resource that is in our ever-growing library here in the student ministry youth house for parents to check out to help them understand issues going on in our culture and in your student's world, school, and mind.
Today we will be looking at Kevin DeYoung's book on homosexuality, What Does the Bible Really Teach about Homosexuality?
What I love about his book is that it is short and to the point with what the Bible teaches and how to answer common objections to the Bible's teachings. The book is split into two parts, the first covering five main passages of Scripture that address the sinfulness of homosexuality.
- Genesis 1-2
- Genesis 19
- Leviticus 18 & 20
- Romans 1
- 1 Timothy 1
In each of these passages he offers a historical interpretation that shows how the text should be understood in light of the sexual revolution in our culture.
The second part of the book DeYoung address seven main objections to the Bible's teachings where he shows how each is simply a way of diverting what the Biblical teaching shows about the truth of homosexuality. He address these objections:
- The Bible Hardly Ever Mentions Homosexuality.
- Not that King of Homosexuality.
- What about Gluttony and Divorce?
- The Church is Supposed to Be a Place for Broken People.
- You're on the Wrong Side of History
- It's Not Fair.
- The God I Worship Is a God of Love.
Please come in and check out this resource if you want a quick read to help you understand why homosexuality is against God's will and how you might give an answer in love to those who might struggle with such temptations.
